Outdoor Fabric

Outdoor Fabric

The fabric that revolutionized an industry.

Sunbrella believes in worry-free fabrics. Fabrics that are durable, easy to clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy comfortably in any environment. We began in the 1960s meeting the challenge of creating an awning canvas with a substantially longer lifespan than cotton. Over the years we have expanded our portfolio, developing new fabrics and technologies specifically designed for use on outdoor furniture, indoor furniture, window treatments, boats, and more.

Each yard of Sunbrella performance fabric is a product of a global support team committed to producing only the most exceptional performance textiles you can buy. Sunbrella fabrics are made with close attention to design detail and engineered with robust performance characteristics that make them easy to care for and last for years; whether they are used indoors, outdoors or on the water.

Our History & Heritage

The Anderson plant features an ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 certified manufacturing operation, R&D center, and testing lab. This facility established the blueprint for our plants in Lille, France and Suzhou,  China, enabling us to best serve our customers in those regions. Sunbrella is always manufactured to the same standards and is delivered when you need it, anywhere in the world.

Why Sunbrella®

Sunbrella revolutionized the awning industry in 1961 as a premier textile innovated with beautiful design and incredible durability. Today, Sunbrella leads the pack as a performance fabric industry pioneer constantly redefining textile craftsmanship. Sunbrella is constantly researching and developing new ways of bringing durability, comfort and style to the places people live, work and play.

What is the Sunbrella Fabric Difference?

Sunbrella Complete Performance: Often imitated. Never duplicated.

There are many products that have tried to imitate the performance Sunbrella offers with a “good enough” performance fabric. However, none of these products offer the proprietary formulation, cutting edge innovations, and extensive styles and textures of Sunbrella. Sunbrella fabrics are the complete performance standard, with best-in-class comfort, color retention, cleanability and strength that lasts.

Comfort & Softness

With Sunbrella performance fabrics, exceptional comfort and unmatched durability go hand in hand. Our complete performance makes Sunbrella fabrics tough enough for the outdoors, and soft and cozy for indoors. Sunbrella performance fabrics include many different weaves and surface textures, still meeting the overall intention: long-lasting softness and comfort. Our yarns have softness and durability woven into each fiber, which makes Sunbrella performance fabrics perfect for creating comfortable spaces.

Cleanability

Sunbrella performance fabrics are easy to clean while maintaining the strength and integrity of the fabric. We call it worry-free livability. Many performance fabrics are simply regular fabrics with a protective surface finish. Complete performance does not rely on a finish which can wear off. Sunbrella engineers performance into the core of each fiber, including stain-resistant technology. Visit our ‘How to Clean’ page to learn more.

Color Stability

Sunbrella performance fabrics are made of 100% solution-dyed acrylic. Our fibers are saturated with color and UV-stabilized pigments before they’re spun into yarn–meaning the pigment goes all the way through the fibers and the color stays true over time.

This unique process makes Sunbrella performance fabrics inherently fade resistant, UV protective and durable to the core; maintaining color and quality through cleaning, wear or exposure to outdoor elements.

Wastewater Reduction - Sunbrella upholstery fabrics are 100% solution-dyed. Unlike conventional coloring processes, solution-dyeing reduces wastewater.

By incorporating the knowledge of how colors fade and why, Sunbrella has created a product that you can have faith in and know that if well maintained its integrities and trust in the processes that have come to be known as Sunbrella.

Less Waste - Sunbrella ensures you are getting a product that lasts longer and needs to be replaced less often, ultimately creating less waste.

Strength That Lasts

Sunbrella performance fabrics are engineered to last. Our fibers are mold and mildew resistant, stain and water resistant, and designed to stand all the tests of time. Regardless if you need fabric to stay strong in a high-traffic hotel lobby, or on your patio or boat through the sun, rain and storms, you can rest easy knowing Sunbrella fabrics have strength that lasts.

Award-Winning Design

Sunbrella designers draw on a depth of expertise and a keen understanding of design trends to create fabrics that inspire and delight. Sunbrella offers a range of performance fabrics from single-color weaves and complex jacquards to textures like chenille, bouclé, tweed, knits and more. Our wide selection of styles, colors and textures provides hundreds of choices for every palate, so anyone can bring their vision to life.

Versatility

Founded on the belief that fabrics should be both beautiful and functional, Sunbrella meets the needs of customers, designers and fabricators as a trusted and versatile fabric to enjoy life moments without worry in any setting. From the patio to the living room, or the kitchen to the boat, Sunbrella fabrics have the performance and design needed for every space and place.

Care & Protection

We want you and your customers to have the best experience possible with our fabrics. Sunbrella is here for you, delivering customer service and peace of mind long after the sale. Most fabrics have been tested to achieve key safety certifications, like GREENGUARD Gold and OEKO-TEX®, to ensure our fabrics are not made with harmful substances.

Sunbrella® Industry-Leading Testing.

Ensuring Sunbrella performance textiles exceed expectations.

Sunbrella fabrics achieve their legendary performance with extensive testing of all our fabrics. Our goal is to be the best, most trusted product on the market.

What Are Our Fabric Testing Methods?

Sunbrella uses an extensive combination of in-house and external tests to ensure our fabrics meet rigorous criteria. Thirty-three fabric tests on Sunbrella fabric are performed in-house at company laboratories in Anderson, S.C. We use state-of-the-art, third-party certified testing to ensure exceptional quality and durability in every environment and every market we serve.

Sunbrella has industry-leading fabric testing capabilities using a demanding combination of standard and proprietary tests to deliver exceptional performance with all our fabrics.  In fact, Sunbrella testing labs are ISO/IEC 17025 (general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories) certified to perform 18 standard tests in-house. These standard tests range from colorfastness and flame retardancy, to abrasion, accelerated weathering and many others. An additional 9 proprietary tests are completed on Sunbrella fabrics to ensure our legendary performance goes beyond any standards.

Accelerated weathering testing, which is designed to simulate the long-term effects of environmental elements (e.g. sun, moisture) uses an excess of 5m sample hours per year. Sunbrella partners with the biggest external outdoor testing laboratories in the world for real-world, real-time outdoor testing in the toughest of environments.

Sustainability

Sunbrella® is Committed to the Environment.

The manufacture of fabric through its final use often produces leftover fiber, yarn and fabric; from Sunbrella manufacturing facilities as well as from the cutting tables of our various customers. Sunbrella took on the challenge of finding this waste a new purpose – and the Renaissance yarn program was born.

Zero Waste to Landfill - No Sunbrella manufacturing facility in the world sends waste to a landfill. A result of our focus on efficiency and extensive reuse and recycling efforts, this initiative allows for Sunbrella manufacturing to lead by example by putting sustainability into practice every day across the globe.

Sunbrella products are rooted in sustainability throughout the manufacturing of the fiber, yarn, and fabric. Our dedication to quality ensures that you are getting a product that lasts longer and needs to be replaced less often, ultimately creating less waste. In all the markets we serve, Sunbrella products hold their color and strength, outlasting traditional fabrics.

Sunbrella Renaissance.

Transform fabric waste into sustainable new fabric with the Sunbrella Renaissance program.

Renaissance Yarn

Renaissance yarns combine up to 50% of this postindustrial recycled Sunbrella fiber. The waste is segmented into color groups, reduced back to its fiber state and then mixed with Sunbrella virgin fiber before making its way back through the fabric manufacturing process. The fiber blend helps ensure that the product meets stringent Sunbrella performance standards.

Unique Character

Sunbrella Renaissance yarns create the occasional, natural variation of shade or specks of color thanks to their unique composition, adding to the visual interest of the fabric. The result is a textile with vintage charm, rich coloration, soft feel, and excellent performance.

Environmental Programs

Recycle My Sunbrella- If you are ever wanting or needing to have your old cushions and old rugs,  Save Sunbrella fabric waste from entering landfills with the Recycle My Sunbrella program.

For more than 25 years, Sunbrella has recycled acrylic manufacturing waste and delivered it to partners who convert the materials into industrial products such as felt, automotive insulation and filtration.

In 2010, we started the Recycle My Sunbrella program that allows domestic consumers to participate in our recycling process. This is a special take-back program that provides an alternative to disposal for fabric scraps, awning covers, boat covers and upholstery fabric. Since the inception of the program, business partners and homeowners have recycled more than 600,000 pounds of fabric.
